Contact eBay Customer Services. Tell them what has happened, and that the seller is no longer responding. eBay may give the seller another chance to refund you or will refund you themselves.   In addition, after a case has been closed, eBay still provides an opportunity to appeal the decision:   From http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/buyer-protection.html   Appeals Buyers and sellers have one opportunity within 45 days from the day the case is closed to appeal the decision by providing the appropriate documentation via the eBay Resolution Centre... ... Ignore the 'seller doesn't accept returns' bit. eBay views that as referring to returns because a buyer has simply changed their mind. The seller has to accept returns when the item arrives not as described.   Send a message to the seller, through eBay, stating that you wish return the item and receive a full refund. If you do not get a satisfactory response, open a SNAD (Significantly Not As Described) dispute in the eBay Resolution Centre. One advantage of an eBay SNAD dispute is that eBay's resolution team have access to any messages sent between you and the seller.   The seller has 8-days to respond to the dispute. Should they fail to resolve the problem, escalate the dispute and let eBay decide. If eBay instruct you to return the item to the seller, send it tracked and insured for the amount that you paid the seller (in case it is lost in the post).   Your refund will include the purchase price and the original postage and packing charge, but not the cost of returning the item. Though, a good seller would also refund the return costs, where they are at fault (inadequate packaging, in this case).   NB The time limit for opening a dispute is 45-days from the payment date. Do not close the dispute until you have received your refund (no matter what the seller may say or promise). Once closed, a dispute cannot be re-opened. ... View more

Re: fake item bought, how do I get money back

@howie3663 wrote: ... what  are my chances of getting my money back?   If you can obtain written verification that the item is a fake (from a third party - such as Trading Standards or a Jewellers), and if you correctly follow the dispute procedure, then your chances of getting your money back are good.   You will need to escalate the dispute to a claim within 20-days of opening the dispute. If PayPal instructs you to return the bracelet to the seller, then send it tracked and insured for the full amount that you paid.   In the future, a seller asking you to help them defraud eBay of their fees, should set the alarm bells ringing. After all, a seller who is happy to defraud eBay, is unlikely to to have any qualms about also defrauding you. ... View more

As you say, cars are not protected by PayPal - that's why car sellers on eBay Motors do have to accept PayPal. There's no buyer protection either. So, the payment may have been reversed because it was not authorised.   The Police do not automatically assume that a crime has been committed, especially where eBay is concerned. There could be another explanation. For example, the buyer might have reported their credit card lost, and the card provider, in an over zealous reaction, cancelled all recent transactions.   You need to pull the buyer's contact details and telephone them. If the contact details turn out to be false, then you will have an actual crime to report to the Police (that they cannot ignore) - Fraud by false representation (section 2 of the Fraud Act, 2006). The car theft would be part of the same incident.   ... View more

Re: Why no Security at PayPal?

PayPal do not give out existing passwords. They allow a new password to be created - after security checks:   I forgot my password. How can I recover it?   If you have forgotten your PayPal password, you will need to follow these steps to create a new one: Visit the PayPal website at www.paypal.co.uk Click ‘Problem with login’ under the ‘Log In’ button. Choose 'I've forgotten my password' and enter the email address registered to the account. Enter the security code by typing the letters and numbers shown then click ’Continue’. Confirm account ownership by selecting and entering the information you want to verify and click ’Continue’. Create a new password, which must be at least eight characters long and should not contain any spaces If you are unable to recover your password, please contact PayPal Customer Service.   If somebody gained access to your PayPal account with your original password, then they must have obtained it a way other than by asking PayPal.   Have you:   Signed-in to PayPal in a public place (that could have been observed)? Signed-in using a PC that may have been infected with a key logger or other malware? Clicked a link in an email (supposably from PayPal) and signed-in? Been using a weak password that could have been easily guessed? Been using the same password for numerous other websites? Left a PC unattended (where others could access it) while signed-in to PayPal?   ... View more

Although PayPal instantly credits a payment to the seller's account, it takes time for the money to reach PayPal from your bank (7 to 9 working days for a direct debit). Banks do sometimes refuse payments. So, PayPal waits until it has received the money before refunding it. ... View more

The 'Unclaimed' status can be because the payment email address, which is passed to PayPal by eBay's checkout system, is not  registered with PayPal.   You can view the email address used in your listing by clicking the 'Sell Similar' link, in the 'Actions' column of your eBay 'Ended Listings View'.   If the email address is incorrect, but can be added to your PayPal account (you can have up to 😎 and confirmed, then you will receive the payment without troubling the buyer again. Otherwise, you will have to ask the buyer to cancel the unclaimed payment, and give them the correct email address - so that they can re-send the payment, using PayPal's 'Send Money'. The buyer will still be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection, if they select 'Goods' as the purchase type. The buyer can include the eBay item number and item title in the message that accompanies the payment.   Another possible cause of this problem is if you have recently changed your PayPal email address, but haven't confirmed it. If that were the case, then simply confirming the email address would release the payment.     ... View more
