Scammed using fake tracking number by the seller.

Hello Paypal community,

I would like to bring attention to my situation. First of all I feel humiliated, getting scammed so easily by an old textbook scam. I recently bought a MacBook Pro online through Paypal, I asked paypal to check the invoice seller sent me and they said it was okay to go ahead with the transaction as I was protected. After I paid $2000 to the seller, I was provided with a USPS tracking number, few days later it said the package was delivered but I never received the package. I contacted the local post office, they said it was delivered to Walgreens nearby with same zipcode. Basically what seller is trying to do here is exploit paypal and its users providing that false tracking number and showing that it was “delivered”.

I have an ongoing dispute and claim going on about this paypal, I have provided all the evidence paypal will need to look at the facts of this situation. I got a detailed USPS tracking report showing the exact delivery address and how it is different from mine. I also got USPS  package weight info which was only 1lbs while we know MacBook Pro weighs more. I also have screenshots of conversations with the seller proving that its a scam and a fraud.

I hope Payal looks at all these facts and help me get a refund. I also want to warn other to be careful. I have read many discussions where Paypal sides with the seller because the tracking says delivered (even though it’s not delivered to the buyer), hence I provided all the factual evidence to strengthen my case.

I still have hope in Paypal @PayPal_DerrickD  @PayPal_Roy

I believe I too am a victim of seller fraud using the USPS tracking to perpetrate sales fraud and keeping of buyers funds. I am a senior citizen who went to Amazon looking for hand held rototillers for sale. I found what I thought was a legit business that had 2 Mantis rototillers for sale at a steal of $99 each and some change, was a steal alright it appears the so called rototiller was mailed through USPS and the tracking confirmation said the package was delivered ,picked up at my small rural local post office.I never picked up the rototiller at the PO and now I am in a battle to get my funds back from Pay Pal because of seller fraud. The seller has no contact number or address and the name changed with the sale, it was a bargain outlet store that miraculously changed to a timeshare. Be weary folks looks like buyers are being exploitedl. PayPal , that was considered a safe avenue for payment and recourse for fraud or customer dissatisfaction looks to be having issues tamping down this type of fraud .

I am currently experiencing this problem these scammers are finding real crafty ways to steal folks hard earned money.. PayPal had such a good reputation but now its like you cant even trust shopping through them as it appear to not be that safe after all. I dont know how they getting USPS traking info to appear so real when nothing was ever sent.  This is crazy and I am disputing this all now trying to get money back.

I'm currently dealing with this scam. I ordered a 3 piece patio set from this website called mallflashsale.com. As soon as I paid I realized the fake nature of the transaction. I tired to reach out to PayPal to cancel the transaction but PayPal was too quick to pay the vendor and I had absolutely no chance to cancel it. I never got any invoice from the seller except PayPal payment confirmation. Today, I got a tracking number which of course is a fake tracking number as per BBB complains from many other victims like me. The UPS tracking number appears legit however when  you go to the tracking, it say .20 lbs weight which should be over 40 plus lbs considering the item I ordered.

I have a case open with PayPal but what really makes me upset that this vendor has been exploiting PayPal for a longtime and PayPal hasn't blacklisted it. This is absolutely insane.

Yup! This is exactly what I am currently dealing with! PayPal denied my claim at first and I had to dispute it again showing them I never got an confirm email the site had no number an the amount of the transaction didn't match also they uploaded a fake PayPal I'd number and the invoice was completely different to the purchase. Then 2 weeks later a tracking # suddenly appear saying the item delivered and there is nothing at my mail box I am not letting this go until I get my money back I don't care how long it takes.. ppl are quick to buy using PayPal because of the highly trusted site they been all these years till now..

Happened to us also. Our dispute has some interesting facts. Before I share the detail, I will begin by saying that PayPal has denied the claim based on a delivery to our city and zip code. No weight of package is available on USPS website, nor is the exact address ever located on the delivery proof notification. The scamming seller is using the USPS Priority Shipping products which ship at a low cost in 3-5 days. The scammers are mailing an empty box (or full of rocks to make the weight) to a nearby address. But PayPal requires the seller to ship only to buyer’s registered address, you say? Glad you mentioned that. The scammer adds another label over the original shipping label making sure not to cover the REAL tracking number (the one you will eventually see as delivered). Scammer sends package to a store/public building (easily found on google maps) near your house address. Remember that your REAL address is now covered by the label for a place nearby. But the tracking number is still exposed and still valid! And this little scam only costs under $15 using the USPS Priority boxes. So now, PayPal says the package was delivered — case closed. But here’s the kicker (you waited so patiently)! We ordered a product on June 28th. Our tracking says the item was delivered on July 1st. Not only are we signed up on USPS “Informed Delivery” (I get an email every day with an image of everything to be delivered), but I have HD cameras footage and you can see the mailman put ONE letter in my mailbox on July 1st (supposed delivery date). No package! Not all day!! Not the day before, not the day after, not all week. Oh yeah, the kicker — The USPS delivery notification says the item was prepared for shipping on June 26th😂 Now that’s customer service!! They started my shipping label before I even knew I was going to order it! Going to PO tomorrow and will get the scanned image as documentation for an appeal to PayPal. Hopefully PayPal understands the scam here and fulfills their end of the agreement for “buyer protection” as promised.

Im having the exact same issue,  Ill be heading down to the post office today to request a scan of the package.  Has anyone had any luck resolving this with PayPal?  Hoping to see what other evidence i will need to gather in order to appeal my denied claim.

Hi Chmanzi, First I will say that I used Twitter to publicly post and tag the situation. Specifically #scam #paypalscam #USPS #USPSscam. I will warn you now, @Paypal on Twitter will publicly post to you immediately and ask for details in PM. This is to save face to the outside world. Once you jump through the hoops, they send the canned response that case is closed and not to your advantage. When they do that, post a screenshot of that as your Twitter reply to the overly kind public attempt to help you. This pulls the wool off. You will have to play this game several times. Know the law. The shipping agreement is between YOU and the shipper. That’s why PayPal tries to wash their hands of this and send you to the shipper (the one who ripped you off) to resolve this. In knowing the law, when you call USPS, ask for confirmation that the package from XYZ went to YOUR EXACT ADDRESS. If they say no, then ASK what address. USPS can’t give you the address legally so they won’t. Then ask for the GPS coordinates. Legally can’t give you that either because it’s NOT YOUR ADDRESS. And if it WAS your address, they would, right? This is your proof that they did not deliver to you AT YOUR HOUSE, AT THE ADDRESS you gave the shipper which is part of the agreement (aka the contract you exchanged money for promise of goods). Therefore, the shipper broke the contract. And PayPal backs that seller/shipper up so they need to cough up the money and go after them. With USPS, they won’t tell you the address because YOU DO NOT have a contract with them. The person who asked for a paid for shipping (the seller) did. That’s why legally they can’t tell you. Now go look up the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). The UCC states that in the world of e-commerce, there is contract law. In the contract, when you buy online, unless otherwise stated, the shipper sets and is therefore responsible for the requested goods to arrive at the requested destination. Not your neighbor’s house, not a block over, not at CVS — your specific stated address (hence the GPS). Force these places (PayPal and USPS) to admit that they do not have this proof. PayPal will continually send you USPS delivery confirmation. Look closely at that confirmation . . . Is your COMPLETE address there? Or is it just city and zip (I bet just this). Demand a GPS code as valid proof. City and zip don’t mean squat! PS. I just read your post again after I posted — remember! You don’t have a contract with USPS. You didn’t mail anything! You didn’t pay them to mail anything! They can’t open a claim and if they do to appease you, it will be for sure denied. What they give you is what I mentioned above — that they cannot prove that it went to your address. And so you understand, when I asked USPS (really nice lady), I questioned her until I got her to admit it wasn’t my address — this is what you need. Unfortunately they won’t put that in writing but now you make PayPal prove with GPS (but they can’t so), you win! Update us when your done!!

Thank you for explaining the scam!  I too fell victim to this scam and frustrated PayPal is not doing more to address the concern.
