Buyer has not received my item and claiming refund from me

Hello community. I recently sold an item via Facebook Marketplace. The buyer paid me. I posted the item via Australia Post. I took photos of the package including Australia Post tracking details. The tracking number shows that Australia Post received the item but very little other details (no status updates). The buyer didn't ask me to pay for any postal insurance so I sent the item standard post. I have no doubt the item is lost in transit. It has been a month since I sent the item. The buyer is now staying that the he will lodge a refund claim with PayPal to recover his money. I sent the item in good faith, which I have photographic proof of plus proof via the Aust Post tracking service. I still need to go through the lost item process with Australia Post, but if that fails to turn the item up does this buyer have the right to request a refund from me? Just checking what my rights are.

Would you not want a refund if you paid for something you did not receive?

You need to refund the buyer and then claim from the postal service you used, tracking or insurance is for your protection not the buyers.
