Refund has gone to balance not card

I have a refund for something that I paid with a card, but the refund has gone to my paypal balance and not the card.  How can I correct this?

Click on the withdraw funds tab and transfer it to any bank account you have linked to your paypal account.

Or you can leave it in your balance and use it to fund future paypal purchases.

Thanks for that - I don't have the bank account linked, I just used the card.  Is there no way that this can be returned to the originating account without linking the account then?  I would really expect refunds to go against the card that was used.

It does seem very odd that it did not go back to your card.

All i can think of is that the seller used the "send money" option rather than the "refund" option and so it went to your paypal balance rather than your card.

Unfortunately you can't withdraw funds to a card ie debit or credit in the U.K.

what you suggested does not work ... when the refund finally comes up and its not all there due to a purchase you cant do that.. please  make a suggestion to have refund go directly to bank accounts

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here.

razzle51, I'd like to explain how the refund process works here at PayPal.

If a payment was funded by your PayPal balance or your bank, the refund will always goes back to your PayPal balance.

If a payment was funded by your debit/credit card, the refund will go directly back to the card involved.

So you see, a PayPal refund will only go back to a bank if you have used the debit card associated with your bank account.

Hi folks.

Just got an email from Paypal saying that my refund that was pending has now been cleared. Thing is, my balance still says zero and I checked my Bank account and the money didn't go in there either. So, I have money according to Paypal but I don't..!! What's it to be and where is it.....?

Did you pay via debit card or instant bank transfer.??
