Should not require app download to view blocked transactions.

I just found out I can only view blocked transactions if I have the PayPal app. That can’t be right, is there no way to view those types of security issues on the website? All that app does is slam Honey onto my phone and collect marketable and salable information for PayPal to sell. Is that even legal? A less secure account is the penalty for refusing to use that app?.

Thank you for clarifying which activity you're inquiring about. Normally, you wouldn't see any blocked payments or transactions, but yes, our app does offer Wallet Monitoring. Wallet Monitoring will alert you if our system detects someone trying to add your card to their PayPal wallet. However, without Wallet Monitoring, PayPal will stop the unauthorized use of your debit and credit cards as often as we can. If you ever do encounter unauthorized activity, you can report it easily through our Resolution Center.

However, if you would like SMS as well as Email notifications regarding every payment completed, sent and received, as well as other activity through PayPal, you can turn them on through the Notifications settings in your account on the web.

I hope that helps,

Hello @RandomNumber

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum! I'm sorry to hear there's some confusion when viewing your PayPal activity. Normally, you should not see transactions PayPal has blocked or denied on the PayPal app or site. The only time you'd normally see a denied transaction would be when a withdraw to your bank or card fails, or when you try to pay by with a bank and PayPal is unable to capture the funds due to a denial from your bank's end.

If you are concerned there are potentially unauthorized payment attempts on your PayPal account, I'd recommend updating your password and security questions, as well as research our 2-step verification options

Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Support teams for any further clarification.

Best wishes,

 - Jon K

I was referring specifically to https://www.paypal.com/us/cshelp/article/HELP1054 , which reads:

Do I need to have the PayPal app to view details about any unusual activity?

Yes. You’ll need to have the latest version of the PayPal app installed to review details about the activity we blocked. If you can’t download and install the latest version, try checking your statements carefully and contact anyone who may have attempted to add or charge your card. You can also contact your card issuer for more help.

That seems to indicate that you DO need the app to properly monitor your account's security properly.

If you are going to require an app to see blocked transactions you should make an app that supports Windows desktops.  What about people without smartphones?

I have the same situation. Got an email saying an unusual charge was attempted to one of my cards. Went separately to log in to my PP account, and got the same message. Clicked on the link and it was a link to download the app, which I'm not going to do. I called customer service and they told me that they had no record of any transactions being attempted after my last recorded transaction, which is a monthly pre approved charge.

If they are blocking my transactions, they should be able to tell me which transactions are being blocked, right? It seems like if they're acting like a bank and can block transactions they should have some type of record of it.

Exactly. I don't understand why I need to download the app to find out what is going on. If they know, they can put it (securely) on the web for us. If they don't know, they should not be suggesting that they do. This just looks like weird bait to get us to download ONE MORE APP.

I hope PayPal will respond to this!

same just happened to me.  got an email saying PayPal had blocked a suspicious transaction, but when I logged into my account (web site and app), I got the same message but no further information about the blocked transaction.

If PayPal can notify me about blocked suspicious transactions, can't they also save and share the details of those blocked transactions with me?

Having the same issue. Feels like clickbait. Very disappointing!
