How long to lift receiving limits? Still waiting since October?

Just wondering how long it's taken for others to have their receiving limits lifted? We been asked for for countless documents - the last was my passport and a letter from my fellow directors because it seems Paypal needed confirmation that 'Phil' is short for 'Philip'...

This has been dragging on since October last year. We seem to have invested countless hours and wasted months of trading waiting for account to have it's receiving limit lifted. Checking the list the only thing that Paypal say they're waiting for is our business registration number. The resolution centre confirms they received this on the 6th December?

Help?!

And yes - we have spent hours phoning expensive help lines.

Hi liam44,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the Community Forum!

We’re sorry to hear this. In a situation when you’ve provided documents it usually takes 24 -72 hours to review them.

Regrettably we can’t see your account details here. I would recommend you calling PayPal Customer Services by clicking onto Contact us on any PayPal page as they will be able to review your account and provide you with the best course of action.

We also provide support via Social Media (24/7). You can contact us directly on Twitter @AskPayPal or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PayPalUK.

Hope this will be resolved for you soon.

While I have my own personal Paypal account, the problem that a colleague of mine is having is with a business account for which he is the main account holder. The account is in the name of a private Association and the Association has a website on which a limited amount of memorabilia is sold (only to Association members) and where Association members will be able to book for functions that the Association organises and subsidises.

The general memorabilia sales do not normally exceed £200 - £300 in a year, but the functions could easily draw in receipts of £2000 - £3500 within a 6- or 7-week period, which would appear to breach the limits. My colleague, who is Treasurer for the Association, was asked for personal documents, but he didn't go through with the verification process as his personal documents would not have any bearing on the name of the account, for example.

We, as an Association, need to be able to receive funds up to £5000 - £6000 in each 12-month period, but there doesn't appear to be a way for this to be supported.

Can anyone (from Paypal?) advise on this please?

Hi there DevonExpat,

Once the EU Receiving limit is lifted on an account receiving this amount should not be an issue.

Your friend will be able to see the steps he is required to complete in the Resolution Centre of his account if it is still limited. If he requires alternative steps he can contact us directly and we will be happy to help!

Thanks, Siobhan, for getting back to me.

Our problem is that, when he initially clicked on the 'View Limits' link and was asked to set the type of account, he chose 'Individual' as the description of the Business type did not seem to include us as a private Association. He cannot now go back and reselect the correct type and is now being asked to upload personal documents that would be fine on a personal account but are inappropriate for us! In due course, when he is replaced as the Treasurer (elections every 3 years), someone else will need to have the access and his details will not be relevant to the current Treasurer. Am I making myself clear?

Hi there DevonExpat ,

While he can't go back and select another type, we can on his behalf if it's outlined to us in an email. So my advice would be to get him to email us and we can take it from there.

I hope this helps

The message that was put in the email from within our Association account was:

"When starting the process of removing the receiving limits on the account, I inadvertently selected the 'individual' type of account, as the 'business' type did not seem to include our private association within its definition. I now realise my error, as I am being requested to provide my own personal information, which has no bearing on the Association for which I am Treasurer. Having sought advice from the Paypal Community Forum, the solution seems to be for me to contact you and ask that you reset the type of account to 'business', so that I can upload documents relevant to our correct status. I would be grateful if that could be done, please ."

Unfortunately, the response we received this morning, from 'Louise', was:

"Subject: Request for additional information PP-001-323-861-158 RXI092

Dear M______ C_____,

Thank you for responding to our requests to further verify your customer information. As we cannot lift the EU-Receiving Limit on your PayPal account until all requirements have been met, we would appreciate your help with completing the steps below, so that we can review your account further."

...going on to ask for the same personal information requested on the site. What do we do now?

Hey there, while we appreciate that organisations and associations like yours use PayPal for your own members. We are obliged by law to know who we are dealing with and the identity of the account holder. This is as true for business accounts as it is for personal accounts.

Please let us know how you are getting on and share your experience with the other community members.
