Had what appears to be a genuine email from Paypal requesting i provide them with more info. It says i must do this by 20/04/2011 or under EU legislation my account will be limited.

Logged into paypal and it says on there that i must do it by some point in March. Just wondered if anyone else has received this?

If it is in your PayPal account that you must provide the information in order to maintain your PayPal account.

Are they asking for receipts for the items you have sold? It is due to Money Laundering Laws.

I am in the same boat - it looks genuine but my business set up does not match the information they are asking - so I cant proceed, and have gone round in circles.

There is no help or obvious contact point for any questions.

Does anyone have information - on how I can contact a human to discuss.

I cant be the only partnership in the UK using Paypal

Good luck getting an answer - sorry I can't help! I have also received an email (and message in Paypal) telling me I must provide additional info. The email says the deadline is September and within Paypal it says July.

The first question asks whether I use the account as an individual, sole trader (or a third option which I can't remember). I have both private and business ebay accounts tied to this paypal account. I use my private ebay account regularly and my business ebay account rarely (making peanuts - I only opened it as I didn't want to break any rules).

So, I use my paypal account for both but for 95% personal use - so which box should I tick? Any help gratefully received. I have emailed Paypal but I thought I would ask here as I'm not sure how much help Paypal will be.

We are in the same boat as you I think?

We are a partnership, but not a Limited partnership or a company registered with companies house.

Therefore, no company or business number, no board, etc.

It doesn't seem to allow for this.  The closest thing to this situation is actually a sole trader but that's clearly not right either.  I'm keeping an eye on this post just in case something happens.  Will let you know if I get anywhere.

Well, to keep you informed, I'm no closer to an answer. I emailed paypal on the 8th (same time i left my first post in this thread) and asked for any guidance they could offer. I haven't had a reply. I suppose if nothing becomes clearer before the deadline, I will just have answer somehow, even if there is no way my answers can be accurate!

I also have a partnership. When I emailed Paypal they responded by saying I had to fax a copy of my driver's licence and utility / council tax bill to a number they provided. They also said I could use the Resolution Centre EXCEPT of course there is no reference to a problem in the RC. Since I don't have a fax any more it makes that course of action problematical. The whole thing is ridiculous as they must have loads of partnerships using Paypal.

It would appear that we also are in the same situation, a partnership but no business registration number, they have our VAT number so why they need anything else is beyond me, I have uploaded my driving license and phone bill twice but still they are asking for more, we also don't have a fax so that scenario is of no use. Don't know what is going on with paypal, am just about to call them and see if there is an actual person there who can help! Have phoned them on 08707301880 and they are well aware of the problem (which begs the question why not sort it out!!) and we are now registered as a sole trader and the restrictions are lifted

I am struggling to get some sense out of PayPal on this too. I am the Hon. Treasurer of a non-profit professional association, and I cannot get them to accept this as the status of our PayPal account. I have uploaded my personal documents to verify my identity, the association's bank statements and a letter from the UK income tax authorities acknowledging the status of the association for tax purposes, but PayPal say that if we don't have a company or charity number I must change the status to "individual" or "sole proprietorship". Neither of these is correct, and I do not wish to register with such false information. I have uploaded a letter explaining this, but just get boilerplate emails in reply which don't address the issue.

Is there an email address for PayPal that will elicit a personal reply? Trying to send messages through the "contact us" web page just produces email responses telling me what to do if I have forgotten my password, which I do not need and which are quite irrelevant to the questions I am asking them.

Do they have a proper geographic phone number rather than forcing us to use an expensive 0870 number?  I can imagine that it would not be a quick call to resolve this, and in any case I would like to have something in writing rather than relying on a verbal reassurance from a call centre operator.
