I just got a new credit card as the old one is expiring soon. I don't seem to be able to enter my address in Denmark where I now live, as UK is automatically filled in, and I have now changed my address to Denmark with my bank. Is it not possible to do this? Surely you have other expats who want to maintain their accounts?

You cannot use a UK PayPal account if you have a Denmark address.
You will have to open a PayPal account for the country within which you reside.

This answer is not helpful
I maintain my UK Bank, but let them know my billing address - In Switzerland
If I try to open a Swiss paypal account it asks for details - including my email address of which I only have one and when I plug in those details I am advised that the account already exists - surprise surprise and invites me to log in
You dont seem to have thought about this ....
My Bank account is valid, my address is valid, my email address is valid.
Until I updated the card details due to expiry, all these conditions exist AND I used Paypal in a foreign country with a UK Bank etc etc etc.
Now when I update 1 piece of information Paypal cant cope
Is this a global service or a mickey mouse operation ?

Seconded. I am a UK citizen, and my bank account for Paypal is held there. But the address for the account is in Switzerland.
I need to provide the address associated with the account, but the "country" field is locked to United Kingdom.
As Icdxr explains, opening another account in Switzerland is not an option. Besides, why would paypal be encouraging people to have multiple personal accounts? How would this work when I try to verify the same bank account with each account?
This seems to be a poor piece of web-form design. I should be able to have my postal and account operational address as one thing (and if at least one has to be in the UK, that's annoying, but I would deal with it). But bank account addresses can be overseas and often are.
How do you expect to handle tens of millions of expats?

Hi everyone,
Although I realise this issue may be frustrating for all of you, it isn't possible at this time for a customer to change the country that their PayPal account is registered in. It is also possible to register any financial information to a PayPal account when the financial details originate from a different country.
I sincerely apologise that this is not available at this time. It may become available at some point in the future but I can not confirm if and when this may take place.
David.

"Although I realise this issue may be frustrating for all of you, it isn't possible at this time for a customer to change the country that their PayPal account is registered in."
It is patently clear that this is not what anyone has been asking.
"It is also possible to register any financial information to a PayPal account when the financial details originate from a different country."
Have you missed a negative here? If not, can you explain how to do this please?
As far as I understand, the "financial details" Paypal is interested in are those of the bank being used. Well Lloyds, Barclays and many others are based in the UK. The account itself is based in the UK. The details of the account need to match up with those held by the bank, and nothing else; if Lloyds hold a different mailing address for me, that's between them and I, it's nothing to do with paypal anymore than if my house number is odd or even.
Frankly, I don't think this is a matter of security or anything else, it's just the form is not built correctly and restricts this option because no-one foresaw this scenario. You could probably change it with very little effort, and save plenty of us the hassle of having to find an alternative payment method.
To support this argument, anyone reading this thread should just try using their old address in the UK. The process still goes through, for both my cards. The only verification here is that the address "looks" like a UK address. So much for security.

Hi again everyone,
I realise that there may be a lot of UK customers with UK financial information that are living overseas. I will by all means pass the information on to the relevant teams internally but at the moment, I can only advise you all what the current process is for PayPal account holders.
I sincerely apologise for any frustration or inconvenience that this issue may have caused any of you. I can't guarentee that this process will be changed any time in the near future but I can assure you that I will pass the details on to the relevant people.
David.

I would not mind but I have been using Paypa for over 10 years with no difficulty. It has only happened with this latest renewal of my credit card. At one time I was living in Saudi Arabia, my home address was France, and my account/credit card were sterling, but Paypal had no trouble.
How come an international system that worked well has been changed? and does not appear to be able to be reinstituted@? Anything to do with the new owners? Ebay?, who are also the only other company I have had trouble with?

I just recently came up against this problem - UK accounts but a (now) foreign address - and found a way around. The proviso is that this has not been tested buying something yet.
Success: Registered the chequing account for direct transfer of funds. This was straght forward with no problems.
Success (Eventually): Registered the credit card. The address system defaults to the UK. My previous UK address got rejected. But I entered the partial foreign address (street / zip) with "United Kingdom" as the country and it worked.
Having successfully registered the card I tried to updated the address and it failed, but at least I (perhaps?) have a credit card on the account 🙂 It is really disappointing that PayPal does not support this situation - it is one reason for having an account. Even more helpful would be having a single account that could handle multiple card currencies...
