Scammer has sent me money - how to accept and refund

My friend had her Facebook account hacked and asked me for my PayPal email address, which I gave, as thought it was her.  Then £300 appeared in my PayPal account I realised it was a scam as friend (scammer) asked me to transfer it to her bank account.  I called her and she confirmed she'd been hacked.  Anyway the person whose card it was, thankfully put a stop on it, and I didn't transfer the money.  I've now been asked to refund this "scam buyer" but Paypal have already removed the funds from my account.  Is it safe to hit the refund buyer button when the funds have already been put on hold?
