Tax ID money hold

So a few days ago I updated my TAX ID info like PayPal asked and now I can’t access my money that they have on hold. It says it’ll take 15 minutes but doesn’t refresh. From my research this is an ongoing issue. I’ve seen users post on Reddit about dealing with this since February and I’ve spoken to PayPal support and they’ve told me multiple times there is no timeline they can give me for when exactly I’ll be able to access my funds. I’m wondering if anyone at all has found a resolution or gotten their money after dealing with this glitch? And if so how long did it take and what exactly happened that allowed you access? Genuinely about to never use PayPal again because of this. It’s really messed up and reading people’s stories are super disheartening. This sounds illegal to not fix within a certain amount of time.

Anyone wanting to get ahead of this should not wait until the hold to provide tax ID, in the meantime.

Thank you for your posts! I'm very sorry to hear of the frustration with a Tax ID hold. It's definitely not the experience that PayPal wants you to have. While the technicians look for a fix, I've been told there is a workaround to try. Please take a look at this linked post for some information about that, and come back to let us know if it did the trick.

Hi there!

 

Did you get your money?  DId they fix the problem?

Because the same thing is happening to me now.   I added my SSN and even got an e-mail "The tax ID hold has ended, and your funds will be available if there are no other issues with your account."  but my fund is still on hold.

 Just want to know how long it took you to get your money?

I'm sorry to hear the hold hasn't been released even though you've submitted your information. If you haven't already, please try completing the steps that @PayPal_Olivia linked in the post above. If the hold remains, I recommend reaching out to our Customer Support teams by selecting Help and Contact at the bottom of the PayPal website. 

I hope your hold is released soon!

I have the EXACT same problem, and it has been TWO WEEKS. I missed my rent, missed a bill, and PayPal customer service has literally been ZERO help. I’m about to get a third party involved. I am also never using the service again and taking every small business I know that accepts PayPal payments to switch to something reliable. This is inexcusable. 

When I try to call, I’m kicked off and directed to messaging where the responses are every few hours and by different agents. What the **bleep**

Same!!! At this point, there are many people that have and continue to have their money held indefinitely by PayPal, and PayPal does not seem to have any intention of releasing the funds to people, nor to act in good faith by honoring their “15 minutes” promises or commitments as stated on their site(s) , so many are left with no other option but to file formal complaints with: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau | https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ State Departments of Consumer Affairs/Attorney General’s Offices FTC And other local, state and federal agencies. Screenshot all written message between you and PayPal and any notifications or language about the “Tax ID Hold” on the site, in articles and what you see when you login or click on that yellow notification, etc. I screenshot everyday, and have since this issue began to ensure nothing can be disputed, given the slippery nature of the reps that have communicated with me and change the story as often as they can… from technical issue to, telling me not to email , but to call, and when I call telling me to email on the site… It’s a pretty awful customer experience!

It’s really sad that PayPal treats it’s customers this way… I hope we all get our money back from PayPal.
