Hello @PETEtheCOOL, Welcome to the PayPal Community! I understand you'd like to learn more about how payments are paid when using a bank, and I'll be happy to help. When you select a bank to send the payment, a couple of different situations can happen. The first and most common is that the payment will be sent as an instant transfer. An instant transfer is when PayPal automatically sends the payment to your friend (or a merchant), and then we wait for the money to reach us from your bank. If the bank notifies us that the money isn't there, we'll try to collect the money one more time from your bank. If that one doesn't clear either, we'll then use your backup funding source, which would always be a card. (If that card is your debit card, you could see the attempt up to three times from the same bank account.) When reviewing your PayPal Activity page, the payment should show "Completed" if it was sent as an instant transfer. The other option could be that the money was sent as an eCheck. If you see that the payment shows "Pending" in your PayPal account, it was most likely an eCheck. In that situation, we wait until the money clears from your bank before we send it to your friend or a merchant. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Support if you need any help determining how the payment was sent. I hope this information helps you determine how the payment was sent. I've included a couple of hyperlinks to our Help Center for more information as well. - Meghan
