A friend sent me $1,800 owed to me from a loan several months ago. She failed to designate the payment as "friends or family" and I was dinged for $53 in fees. Is it possible to rectify this on her part or my part? I did not charge interest for this loan.

Nope. And you’ll be charged the difference in fees if you issued a refund in full. But beware that currently, personal accounts cannot send friends and family payments to business accounts, nor can business account receive friends and family payments from personal accounts so you’ll have to open a personal account in order to receive the payment as friends and family. You’ll also have to reconcile the payment come tax time because PayPal will include it on the 1099K since you received it as goods and services.
Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

I appreciate the reply. I do in fact have a business account even though I no longer have the business.
Is it possible to change the designation? or do I simply need to establish a new account? can the new account be under my existing e-mail?
thanks for you input
