Sold an item to a Scammer

Hello everyone. I sold an item on 2nd of August last year. The buyer first claimed that he received a different item than what he bought although the package was sealed. Now after almost six months he opened a dispute claiming that the item is not as described and it’s not functioning as it should function and he is asking for a refund. My question is, how long a purchase is protected for ! It has been almost 6 months !! Is there a time frame for purchase protection or it is an open period and the buyer can open a false claim after sometimes ? How can PayPal protect the sellers from such people who wants to scam others ?

Paypal offers buyer protection up to 180 days post payment. This is in line with the time frame most credit card issuers allow.

However in the event of an item received but not as described dispute they will take into consideration the amount of time that has expired before making a judgement call.

If they find in favour of the buyer then they would have to send the item back to you trackable and at their own expense before you have to issue a refund.

Paypal does not see what you sent OR what the buyer states they received, so as i said you both put messages in the dispute stage and once escalated to a claim, paypal make a judgement call, you may or may not win.
