I was given an email and told to request money. Can I be scammed this way?

Yes, they can.

Sure. You can potentially be scammed no matter the way you go about it. Senders/buyers have 180 days to dispute a payment.

You can request money and scammer then sends a fake PayPal email saying they’ve paid asking you to do ridiculous things that PayPal won’t ask you to do to receive payment. 

When someone really pays you, you’ll see a record of payment in your account. So log on and check for payment. Only deliver goods & services when PayPal says in the record of payment that it is ok to.
