Been scammed by seller, send money as gift

Hi I have been scammed. Seller from aliexpres convinced me to pay him on paypal instead of aliexpres and I send him money as personal (gift). Lol. I cannot believe I was so stupid. I realized what I did after an hour and try to convince him to give me money back and I said I will bought item on alie. He does not want it. I am aware he will not ship item. What now? I opened unauthorited access because there was no other options to open dispute since I sent payment as personal instead of buisness. That happened today. Do I have any chance to get money back? What to do?

Unfortunately PayPal will eventually deny your claim because you did in fact authorize the payment. No one broke into your account to send the payment.

There is no buyer protection on friends and family payments so the money gone.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Paypal closed my dispute because I was indeed one who gave money to seller as friends and family. I tried to call my bank because that amount was reserved on my debit card, but they could not do anything. I sent message to paypal and told them what happened, how I was tricked and I was expecting them to close sellers account on paypal. Not sure if they did. How can I check? But what I did not expect is Paypal gave me balance of 80 $ as gest of good will. I sent to seller 89$ so this was great for me. Do I have to say I am very happy how they handle this. Also I would like to know, did seller get any sanctions, did he got my money at the end. I would be happy to know he did not profite from cheating.

Hello @Rain14,

Thank you so much for posting within the PayPal Community.

I know this is a frustrating situation. When a payment is sent as "Friends and Family," it reflects the transaction is personal and not in reference to any item or service. To learn about the payment types, please refer here.

Regarding the receiver's account, if we see evidence our system is being abused action will be taken. For security we would not be able to release any details about the individual's account with you.

I know this may not be the news you would like, but I hope it helps you in the future.

Thank you,

- Ashley
