Hi @sstadnek,
Thank you for joining the community. I'd be happy to clarify why you've seen a fee.
When sending internationally, a fee is involved even if the balance is used. If the payment is for a purchase and the Goods and Services option is selected, the fee is paid by the recipient. If the payment is a Friends and Family payment, the fee is paid by the sender.
I hope this helps!

Also i noticed here that it says they charge a min of .99 if transferring outside of the US.
I was charged $2.17 for my transfer of $6.50 to someone in the US and my balance was in USD.

HI There,
Thank you for the reply.
I thought that if the money is already loaded into your paypal balance then there is no fee to transfer money to someone? I am from Canada but the balance I have is in USD.

Hi @sstadnek,
There is a separate fee that applies when a card is used. If a card is used, both the fees would be applied together. In a case where the balance is used, only the fee for sending internationally would apply.
I hope this helps clarify!

Hi @sstadnek,
The Fees link at the bottom of the Canada PayPal site has details regarding the fees charged under various different circumstances. On that page it states that sending a payment to the US using your balance would have a $2.99 CAD fee associated with it. I'm sorry to hear that there was confusion regarding the specific fee that would be incurred.

Ok i see, so the only way to get around this would be with an american bank account and a US paypal account attached to that?

Hi @sstadnek,
Payments from a US PayPal account to another US PayPal account would not be charged a cross-border fee as the payments would be domestic payments. A PayPal account may only be opened in the country where you reside, however.
I hope this helps!

ok Thank you for the information.
This is off topic but i don't want to start another thread, but..
I sent money to a friend in the US and she claims to not have received it yet. I double checked the email with her and it's correct.
