How do i cancel an 'uncleared' echeque?

Ok so I tried purchasing something off a website, not realising i had 0 funds in my paypal account balance so I guess rather than instantly paying the site, paypal has given them an echeque on behalf of my bank. Now this takes 5-7 working days to clear, which is much longer than i anticipated that i'd have to wait!

So my question is! After i've now added funds to my Paypal account, i want to cancel this echeque and then pay the site directly as my paypal account now has the correct balance.

Ty for reading, hope you can help 🙂

Hi Tommc34,

Thank you for posting on our community.

If a payment is sent by eCheck and it is 'uncleared' it means that the payment is still processing. The seller has the option to cancel/refuse the eCheck but the money will still  be deducted from your bank account, we will add the money to your PayPal balance when the processing days are completed.

If you want to complete the payment faster you could ask the seller to cancel the eCheck, add funds to your PayPal account and make the payment again. But do keep in mind that the original payment will be deducted from your bank account.

I hope this information helps :).

Yup exactly what's stated above^^^^ Ask seller to reject it, and then you can send an instant payment. The money will still come out of your bank account and go into your paypal and you'll have to transfer it back....OR... You can put a stop to it by going to your bank or going online banking and put a stop on a authorized payment or check, just enter paypal check as the name and the exact amount and hit stop payment. You may have to pay a stop payment fee depending on what kind of account you have, It just all depends on how fast you want the item.

How long does the process take to adding the funds back to the paypal account once the echeck has been canceled?

and also purchasing from the funds on your paypal account is way faster than the echeck method right?

Hi WilliamDNG,

Welcome to our community and thank you for posting.

I am sorry that you did not receive a reply yet from any of our members. I hope this information is still useful :).

If a payment was send by eCheck and cancelled after that we need to wait until the direct debit process that was activated to be completed. This normally takes up to 7 business days starting from the date the payment was made. The money will be added back to your PayPal balance as soon as the direct debit is completed.

If you have a PayPal balance the payment will go through direct and the seller will receive the money straight away. If a payment goes by eCheck it will take  up to 7 business days to complete the payment. So if you have a PayPal balance this is indeed quicker.

You can also add a debit or credit card to your PayPal account so that direct payments will be made without needing a PayPal balance. This will save you time to add money to your account :). So that might be an option to look into.

I hope this information helps.

 Hi PaiusAdrian,

Welcome to the community forum and thanks for posting.

If you are receiving money an as e-cheque that would be the way that this person is sending it to you. There are a number of reasons that the payment may be sent that way. It would be best for the sender to get in touch with our customer service team so we can look at it for him. Please ask him to reach out.

I hope this helps.
