"Security Measures" email is this spam?

I've had an email purporting to be from same email address as genuine emails I've had from Paypal previously. This email is suggesting "We recently received a report of unauthorized credit card use associated with this account." and provides a case ID number. PP - XXX etc. and the link takes me to a "Restore your account" page where it's asking for all my details, e.g. email address, credit card details, CSC number.... the lot.

Naturally I didn't feel inclined to fill in any of the form (see above). Instead I accessed my Paypal account the usual way but there's no sign of any unauthorized or abnormal activity or any open cases. If this is a phishing email then it is very convincing.. and I hope others haven't fallen for it. I've forwarded it to Paypal's 'spoof' email address. But if Paypal were to contact me legimitately, how would I tell the difference?

Thanks & regards Wizzie

PayPal always include your full name in the salutation at the start of an email - rather than something generic like 'Dear PayPal member'. Also, PayPal would never request sensitive information to be sent over an insecure channel, such as email.

this has just happened to me too. But I am having trouble with paypal at the moment. However, when I log in it doesn't seem to show a problem.

Hi ALL,

The main ways that you will know if an email is from PayPal or not is

1. We will always address you using your full name as listed on your PayPal account

2. We never put links in our emails and will ask you to log  in separetly to your PayPal account

3. If there is a request for information on your account you will be notified when you log in and will also see a request for information on your Resolution Centre on your PayPal account.

If you receive an email that does not match the information above please forward it to spoof@paypal.com. I would also recommend reviewing our safety tips. To review our safety tips please click here

I hope this helps
