Linking my Visa Electron Debit

Hi,

I'm trying to link my Visa Electron card to my PayPal account but I recieve the following message when trying:

"This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer's customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card."

My Visa Electron card is valid for use on the internet, but for some reason this doesn't seem to work.

Grateful for any help!

Thanks,

Daniel Wallengard Olsson

Hi there DanielOlsson,

When you add your card information, we temporarily charged your card a small amount.

This is a regular fraud prevention measure, to ensure the card is valid. It sounds like your card issuer didn’t authorise the temporary charge, so the card was declined.

I would suggest contacting the card issuer to ask them why they didn't allow the temporary charge and whether you can use this card for online payments.

Let us know how you get on!

Hi,

I have the exact same problem, PayPal even refuses to associate my account with my Visa Electron Card.

I called the bank and they said they have received no transaction for authorisation, they have seen the check transaction for 1 unit from PayPal and they said the transaction was immediately canceled by PayPal.

They say the problem is not from them.

Can you please help ?

Hi LauraTe,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the Community Forum!

I’m sorry to hear about the challenge with linking a debit card.

Have you been able to resolve the situation yet? Please make sure that the card is enabled for online and international transactions and that there are at least few US dollars in its balance to allow temporary authorization charge.

Once your bank will allow the temporary authorisation charge, the card should be linked without any trouble.

Regrettably we can’t see your account details here. I would recommend you calling PayPal Customer Services by clicking onto Contact us on any PayPal page as they will be able to review your account and provide you with the best course of action.

We also provide support via Social Media (24/7). You can contact us directly on Twitter @AskPayPal or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PayPalUK.

Hope this will be resolved for you soon.

Anna
