Does PayPal plan to have a card reader that will be able to accept the new chip cards and comply with new EMV standards?

It is the end of September 30th, and the device promised on September 30--already about two weeks too late--is still unavailable.

Somebody, somewhere, is making money off the delay, or it wouldn't be happening.

Hello everyone,

Thank you all for reaching out to the community regarding the new reader.

Effective today, you can purchase the new EMV chip card reader at https://www.paypal.com/store/.

Thanks for the input, Susie!

The question being discussed is availability and shipping date. Can you address that, please?

I was wondering when the new chip reader will be made compatible with Windows. PayPal here works great on my Surface tablet. I really don't want to change and have to go to a new os and spend more on another tablet. So when do we get Windows compatible?

Based on the glacial pace of the rollout I would say they'll have this done around 2020.

Well if you think about it, They will not loose money if you buy a reader or If you swipe a card with the chip with the old reader and it is fraud you will pay for it not them. So the card companies don't loose. So they charge for the reader because you really have to have it or you are going to be held liable. I think all these credit card companies have that figured out. I think if they offer the service and you pay for the service with every swipe they should be giving us the readers so they can make money. If you really did not reader it would be free, Like the old ones.

But still, the $150 for the unit is way too much for me. Why are you making the people that need it the most, those of us that don't make $3000 is sales in a month, to pay more for it. Why not just charge $49 like Square is. Looks like you're pushing me to use Square for my craft shows.
