I agree, the $149.00 charge is out of line for small users (art shows) who do not sell the $3,000.00 to qualify for the rebate. any plans to get competitive in this market segment?
If not SQUARE will really take off in this small user market.

If the reader is available you should receive the card readers within 3-5 business days after your online purchase. However, if they are out of stock, they'll be sent as soon as possible.
I am looking for the answer to this question too. I ordered mine on the 12th. Since this is the busy craft show season I might have a chance at earning the rebate if I can get the reader soon.
I don't know that square is the answer-i ordered a reader from them as soon as they started taking orders and don't have so much as a possible ship date yet. Looking at what chip readers cost from other services, I'm not thinking that $150 is a bad price at all. Then again, those other guys don't take as high a percentage, so it all depends on sales volume, doesn't it? There's also the small factor that square is doing an IPO while losing scads of money.
Ordered mine on the first day it became available. Have been waiting ever since. Was first told by a Paypal rep it was on its way and 10 days later when I still hadn't received it I called back and was told it was out of stock. WAY TO GO PAYPAL!!!
It's one of those deals where you wish they'd just do what you or I would do- that is, tell the customer that you don't actually have what they need and you have no idea when you will, and understand that they'll go where they need to for service.
