Re: The "Remodel" of your entire Website since ear...

Dear Sapience, I just want to send a quick hello and tell you that I hear you, I understand your frustration, even though PayPal doesn't - and PayPal probably never will. A while back, when I heard that PayPal was applying for the permits to become a bank in the US - I nearly fell off my chair. What a massively **bleep** up house of confusion and incompetence that would be; essentially nothing more than a front to launder illicit money.  It's blatantly OBVIOUS that PayPal used the LOW Bidder for their 2016-2019 computer re-do of their formerly quite functional payment handling system.  In fact, I'm quite sure that the owner of PayPal hired one of his little nephew's high school computer geek friends to do it... I just GAVE UP on PayPal and went to another 3rd Party processer. And unfortunately, with the insane rise in shipping fees and the shipper's concurrent lack of dependable service, I am reaching the end of a previously fun side-line business. I believe many more small, online, sellers will do the same [And maybe that was the whole idea for the CCP Plandemic in the first place]   Eventually PayPal will probably only have the ChiComm, cheap, shoddy, incompetent sellers (who don't give a S*** about timely shipping or anything else for that matter - only the prospect of getting that payment in their account)  Then one day, PayPal will wake up - when all these sellers have emptied their accounts and run under a rock with their cash and a bunch of warrants out on them - and find it has no legitimate business left.  If there is one thing (most) USA sellers, and manufacturers can teach Global sellers it is this: QUALITY COUNTS. EARNEST DESIRE TO DO A GOOD, FAIR, HONEST, JOB FOR ONE'S CUSTOMER COUNTS.  And PayPal, and many thousands of shoddy global sellers on the world-wide-web in the 21st Century don't get this, and never will. ... Interestingly we have run into this sort of problem now with the "Log In with PayPal" button (lippButton) and javascript. Upon placing that button inside a frameset on our service, a user clicks the button, gets a popup window to login to their paypal, and then it sits spinning endlessly because the parent page that created that popup window is now 'refusing the url to be changed by the paypal js'.   A cross domain security issue.   The thing is..... we'd had this code running and in place for about two years straight without fault for all our users. Then suddenly, sometime in the last month this has now become an issue when we changed no code on our end.   Frustrating fighting some of these cross origin security issues because browsers are dogpiling even more restrictions in place to protect everyone from the malicious people in the world. Sadly it means we have to re-engineer and format, change whole flows, and design styles ... just to get around the problem again.   Sorry, I have no solution to your issue....... we still have not found one ourselves. ... Hi, we also have the same problem. Do you need to create the payment with the API v1? Creating it with the v2 and getting the info with the v1 doesn't show the payer.status for me. ... View more

Definitely confusing as a first-time user.   For simple transactions, you can completely ignore the Payments API. It appears that even PayPal doesn't use it for their smart buttons: https://developer.paypal.com/docs/checkout/#how-the-buttons-work   I was also confused because I didn't understand the difference between creating, authorizing, and capturing payments/orders. This page helped me understand: https://developer.paypal.com/docs/admin/auth-capture/   API onboarding could be organized better. I've been staring at the GitHub readme example trying to understand what in the world is going on. ... View more

Reauthorize authorization id does not work correct...

by Frigidman Contributor in REST APIs

Was trying to work in the "reauthorize a prior authorization" system so we could extend an authorization for orders that take longer than 27 days to process. As per the docs, it is allowed to reauthorize an authorization multiple times to extend the expire so long as you wait 4 days before attempting a re-authorize.   However that is not the case. The REST API actually makes a mess of things.   For an original authorization, it returns the `expiration_time`, other info, and the url of: https://api.paypal.com/v2/payments/authorizations/{authorization_id}/reauthorize   After 3 days (which you must wait to use the reauthorize url), hitting the reauthorize url causes it to create a whole new authorization, but results in the exact same `expiration_time`. Making it completely useless, only to cause a mess with now having multiple authorization IDs... AND the buyer seeing multiple authorizations for the exact same order:   Is there really no way to extend an authorization for orders that will take longer? For example, a pre-order of something to release three months later? Or back-orders which had an unforeseen pandemic delay or the like? ... View more
