HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them! Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

LOL--you think? I just don't like vague statistics--I do know what eBay paid for PayPal as it was in a story I posted. --however I watch the financial markets and as I said if not for PayPal, eBay is feeling the pain of what they brought upon themselves. Sellers have left and sales have slowed-this is comfirmed through all of the comments put forth through the WSJ, Forbes, Barrons and the analysts for Brokerage houses. I watched this happen in January when everyone literally had their funds held and the 2009 fourth quarter earnings that were expected to fall short actually outperformed--credit giving to PayPal--of course they looked good on paper. From this week until next Wed or Thurs I cannot remember, there will be more holds again just prior to the 2010 first quarter earnings which again are predicted to be weak but I bet they won't be with PayPal supporting eBay. It is more than time for PayPal to hopefully move out from under eBay's parent company umbrella and become independent again or merge with another similar business. PayPal is becoming an accepted payment option for so many websites and stores including the the FaceBook games like Farmville or SororityLlife where you can use PayPal to buy virtual outfits, crops or whatever--I think it is Zynga games that has the majority of games. I do miss the old PayPal before eBay got involved.

I think most of us do. As I had said way back when I had first started posting that these people just took all the fun out of online selling. First, a basic online store is about $15.99/month. Then they want a fee for every picture you insert, then they charge you to relist your items every month, then they want a percentage of every item item that you sell even you sell the same item again! Jees!! Give me a break already!
But history has always stated: once you start thinking and acting like you're bigger and better than The Almighty, that's when you fall.

Wow Djten--I really needed to see all of those fees-I used to go into denial as I really could not stand to see what I actually made on a sale. I do not have a store but sell throughout the year casually. I did very well in the 2008 holiday season but last year it was awful--I felt I was giving away my product which at the time were new expensive shoes all over $200.00. Granted I did not pay that price but it was like pulling teeth to sell them and they were the latest styles-I think I finally sold some for about $50.00 and the rest to a local consolidator and wish I had done that in the beginning or kept them (ok I kept three Kate Spades)
I agree--it is tough to remember how much fun eBay used to be and now not so much which is why I am back having fun with other alternatives. Craig's list and Amazon have been remarkably good to me. I was a buyer for years and came to eBay first to check when I needed anything--these days I am better off finding the item at a regular store or online and take advantage of the coupons and free shipping.
As to your last statement--"Pride comest before the fall" despite what other posters believe.

If your transaction has been subject to the eBay/PayPal "hold" policy, then this info explains what you need to know.

wtf? So this is why it says my money is pending. My item was delivered on the 12th of April and today is the 15th and still i have heard not a single word from the buyer. Meanwhile I have sent 4 e-mails via eBay.
1. Thanking the buyer and letting them I will get the item out shortly.
2. Let them know how and when I shipped.
3. Asked them if they recieved the item as it says it has been delivered.
4. Why no communication is there something wrong?
And I can't get MY funds until this person decides to leave me positive feedback?? They have had NO communication with me whatsover throughout the entirety of the transaction. Really unjust to hold back my money b/c someone else can't be bothered to communicate and leave feedback.

First I have to say to the sellers that are waiting for their money.....DO NOT LET UP on calling paypal. They keep a record of your calls for your funds. Call often and keep the time of the call goingggggggggggggggg...repeat their listed "hold" policy. Have them try to answer why the stated "may"' really means "will" and the difference in what the definition of these two words ..keep going on & on...think of any and every argument that you can think of, and when that call is over ....call again.
Remember they are trying to wear you down and want you just to accept the "no I can not release the hold"...wear them down by questioning the rational behind the hold. These people really can't answer you with any logical answer so lay it on.
This may seem a waste of time, but they have to deal with you and it costs paypal for every minute you have their agents on the phone and keeping a record of the conversation.
Second thing I have to say is that I offered a reduction in the shipping cost if the buyer did not use paypal...the item did not sell, but I do not know that asking the buyer to use a different payment system was the problem (I accept Visa & MC).
Also...Join in and call the class-action suit...the phone numbers and addresses can be found in many posts. Let the law firms know your story.

I bet paypal loves reading the posts by people that attack other people that post on this HOLD problem. Everybody is just describing what is happening to them. Much can be learned by these posts (except for the plant that defended the actions of eBay/paypal).
I described my (ever changing) method of getting my funds released. This is what works best for me...the problem is the HOLD in the first place. That is what this post area is trying to eliminate or at least share the BS experience.
In my answer to the question of how does a new seller know that eBay/paypal is going to HOLD your money and not tell you....well this is the whole problem with the vague HOLD policy. They don't tell anyone the truth.
