Chargeback Issue

I am seriously confused. A buyer bought an item, a very expensive item, from me and 2 months after the transaction took place, I received a chargeback notice. The buyer says their was duplicate payment requests to his credit card. I'm assuming that means he was charged twice by his credit card company. I was asked to provide proof and thought the issue at the time was he hadn't received the item, so I submitted all shipping documents. That turned out not to be the issue, he had received the item, but was charged twice. It doesn't make sense to me that there is any confusion about my role in this because Paypal can readily "see" on my account that I only have one payment request, via Paypal, and one payment made to me, via Paypal, for this transaction. Yet the money was taken back from me, and now it's in the credit card company's hands. Where would the duplicate payment request have come from? So now he has the item and his money back at this point. And it's an item that can't be returned, just one use. I really don't get why this is an issue at all, since Paypal has the same records I do? Not sure what to do next? Is it possible for buyers to just buy stuff and then ask for chargebacks, get their money back and get to keep the item with no questions asked and no protection for the seller?

I have exactly the same problem
Buyer buys golf driver on ebay ,pays via paypal leaves positive feedback so he has the driver and likes it ,3 months later i get a chargeback for £142 plus £14 fee this was taken from my acc no notice just put me in the red
The reason was an unauthorised payment and the card company have requested the cash back.
Paypal just says ok and just takes the cash from me this seems very unfair
I have sent them all the doc's i have i.e. tracking #/ proof of delivery signature/ and all ebay messages from buyer.
I am now waiting for the card company to decide what to do 120 days what a joke
All the jargon on the Paypal adverts seem to say they will protect you but in my case and by the sound of it yours this is far from the truth.

Hi EIS and yctgolf, and welcome to the forums!
I'm sorry to hear that you experienced chargebacks. A chargeback is never the optimal situation, and PayPal wants to make it as painless as possible while we're fighting the chargeback on your behalf.
Double-check your history around the time of the payment and make absolutely sure that there was only one transaction. If there was, give Customer Solutions a call so that a representative can take a look at the situation and help you out with the next steps. Each situation is different, and a representative would be in the best position to see what factors affected the outcome of your particular claim.
I hope this helps!
Olivia
