Trying to work out how fee's are calculated

I've made a payment using 'Friends & Family' of £30.00. I got charged £1.50. I've found lots of figures for percentage fee's plus a standing/basic charge, but none seem to be correct to get to a fee of £1.50, can anyone advise where I'm going wrong please?

Also... if I paid a vendor £30 for goods or services, would the same charging figures apply to the vendor? (for example they'd pay £1.50 and be left with £28.50).

Thanks in advance

Hello @Extreme99

Welcome and thanks for posting your question in the PayPal Help Community!

I understand your concern about the fees paid for the recent transaction. There is a fee when you send personal payments using a debit or credit card. Additional charges may apply if currency conversion is involved. Also, there is a fee when you send international personal  payments and the 5% of the transaction amount will be applied as fee. It's free to use PayPal to donate or to pay for a purchase or any other type of commercial transaction unless it involves a currency conversion. You can review the consumer fees page again for more information.

Thanks for your help here @kernowlass!

Hope this information helps,

Bindu

Friends/family payments are free if funded from a bank account or from funds in your balance.

You only pay a fee if you fund the payment from a card.

Fees are all listed in here.

Thank you kernowlass for your reply.

I did pay a fee of £1.50 when I sent a friend £30.00.

Your linked page takes me to https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/merchant-fees There's lot of percentage figures on the page, but I'm still at a loss what figures were used to arrive at £1.50

Thank you kernowlass for your reply, hopefully someone else may chip in please?

Working with figures from this page - https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/merchant-fees
As far as I can see, the highest percentage fee is 2.9% then plus £0.30 which comes to £1.17 which is a shortfall of £0.33??
Again, thank you for any input 🙂

So the 5% was due to an international payment, that answers my question, thank you 🙂
