My bank transfer of $1100 lost $42 dollars

I recently made a transfer of around $1100 to a Costa Rican bank called Banco Nacional de Costa Rica, PayPal told me I was only going to pay $11 dollars on fees but for some reason I lost an extra $42 out of nowhere. Neither PayPal, through which I initiated the transfer, nor BNCR can provide clarity on where the money went.
