payment from PayPal balance

Does anyone know if it is normal that payments are being deducted from my PayPal balance instead of using the PREFERRED payment method (credit card). I would like to not pay from PayPal balance if that is possible.

Welcome to the PayPal Community! This is a great question! When you make a payment, you will be able to select a bank account, credit card, debit card, or PayPal Credit account as an online preferred funding source. If you have a preferred funding source, any funds in your PayPal balance will not be used first. However, if you are making a purchase with a preapproved payment or subscription, your PayPal balance may normally be used first.

yes, these are preapproved payments. I guess I am not happy that these charges us the PayPal balance but it is good to know this is expected behavior.
