Paypal not using my preferred payment method

I have two credit cards set up on Paypal as payment methods, with one marked as preferred.

Both cards are unexpired and operated well within their limits.

Paypal is charging some transactions to my preferred credit card and some to my un-preferred credit card.

Can any one explain why?

Exactly my question. I have one debit card clearly marked PREFERRED on my PayPal dashboard  but many of my online subscription payments are charged against other accounts - pretty randomly, as a matter of fact. The whole point of switching my subs payments to Paypal was to draw them all from one account set up for that purpose, but it simply doesn't work that way.

Hello @johniathome and @Texterity,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the PayPal Community Forum!

I understand your concern about the change in funding source for the payment. In general, each time you make a payment from your PayPal account it goes through a series of filters to determine how much risk may be involved in that transaction. If the system deems a transaction to be at high risk, then it may limit the funding options that are available or block the payment from going through altogether. It sounds like this is what you may be running into here. This might be the reason, your funding source has been changed. For any account specific questions, kindly reach out to our customer support team through the available contact options on our website.

Regards,
Ayesha

I have the same issue and have already used the mastercard twice for the same bill. The next two times I tried to use it, it went directly through my bank account. The time after that it chose a random credit card. That time I was experimenting to see if it would work so I only paid $10 of the bill. I don't see how $10 is a high risk amount

I am having this problem.  I bought an item on HSN using their 3-payment offer.  My Discover card is the preferred method of payment on Paypal.

The first payment to HSN was made with the Discover card without a problem.

Now there is a problem.  The 2nd payment to HSN via Discover should have been made several days ago.  It is NOT shown in transactions at all.

However, my Paypal cash balance has mysteriously been reduced by the amount of the payment.

I need my cash balance for another purpose. Why is the HSN payment not being shown?

And why hasn't my Discover card been charged as agreed?
