Does Paypal automatically transfer some money from my balance? Or when I pay with Paypal instead of take money from my attached credit card it takes money from my balance?
Check on any recent buying transactions and see if they were funded via your balance instead of your normal funding source.
If you have the option to select a funding source then you can do so here...
Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > second down click on update next to your preferred way to pay and put a dot in one of the options listed.

as i checked in "Preferred" I have my credit card selected. Is it possible that sometimes for some reason Paypal takes "balance" instead of "Preferred"?
They will for subscriptions or preapproved payments if you have funds in your balance available, that is why I told you to check your monthly subscriptions.
