What is the point of using Paypal if the buyer can just do a chargeback?

I sold an item 2nd hand on a forum. I posted is insured + photographs etc.

Buyer said they were not happy and wanted to return the item but the reasons were that they were not happy with the performance and it didn't meet their expectations but they were a pair of headphones. They worked perfectly as they should. I refused a return as it was a 2nd hand item with no warranty or returns accepted.

The buyer then initiated a chargeback and was successful even though I uploaded the original advert and chat log with the buyer.

What is the point in using Paypal if a buyer can just do this for large amounts of money? I thought there was some protection for sellers but apparently not! I have been using paypal for 15+ years without major issues and suddenly I am out thousands because there is zero protection for sellers.

Hello,
I just had a similar case as a seller.
Sold 2 items to a buyer who turned out to be a scammer. (Sold 2 old gramophone records)
After he received the items, he sent me photos that they arrived broken. When looking closer, it turned out the pictures were photoshopped or AI manipulated by some AI picture program like Midjourney. Broken records on the pictures were different than I had sold him.
He opened a claim, providing the fake pictures. I responded with proof that the pictures are fake.
Meanwhile I received the return box from the buyer, which did not include the records I sold him, but some random records. I made a video of opening the box and added the video to the claim. One day later the claim was closed in favour of the scammer and 350 euros were taken from my PayPal.
I had provided clear evidence that the buyer had manipulated the pictures and that he did not return the items. Non of this mattered to PayPal.
What is the point of giving evidence, when a scammer can do what ever he wants?
In my case it could not be more clear that I got scammed, yet PayPal took my money and the scammer told me via emails that he has this technique of doing so, hinting that he will continue doing so to other sellers.
Is there nothing can stop this kind of scammers?
