Unauthorised Account Access and Usage

I received email that a number which is not mine was added to my PayPal account and a transaction occurred without my knowledge using my credit card. I am now trying to log into the account to reset the password and the system is not allowing me to reset the password. How can I resolve ? The account now appears to be locked

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear your account has experienced unauthorized activity. I can certainly understand how concerning this must be. Normally, if you have access to your PayPal account, we would recommend reporting this kind of activity through the Resolution Center. Since you're unable to access your PayPal account, I would recommend reaching out to our Customer Support teams for assistance. They can be reached by clicking Contact at the bottom of the PayPal website,  through Twitter direct message, or Facebook instant message.
