Hi All, As newbie here, how do I go about getting a refund for an electronic item bought in January that didn't work. The E-bay seller (on the other side of the world, in China) has been as helpful as he can to sort it but has finally admitted defeat. He says that as it was a long time ago there is no longer a refund portal via E-bay. But if I open a payment dispute he will accept it. I can't see how to claim through PayPal. Am I being a bit thick?

Sorry to hear the issue with your purchase. If there's any issue with the purchase, PayPal protection policy covers you if certain requirements met. You can open a dispute with PayPal within 180 days of the payment date. Steps to open a dispute with PayPal can be found here. As the purchase was made 6 months ago, the dispute option will not be available to this purchase. If you paid using your bank account or card, you can contact your financial institution for the dispute options to get your money back.

Thanks for your prompt reply. The purchase was 30 Jan 2023 so within the 180 days. As it happens I did manage to get past the PayPal chat bot and communicate online with a human. I couldn't access the original purchase, only items in the last 90 days, but she did and has opened a payment dispute with E-Bay as goods not received. In fact they were but didn't work despite the seller's attempts to help. He's agreed to accept the claim for refund but it remains to be seen how E-Bay deal with it. Cross fingers!
