Hi all, I’m a cat rescuer and have recieved a message on my Instagram account from a lady offering to donate $3000 but they are requesting I pay a $20 reflection fee first. Alarm bells ringing so I’m guessing this is a scam as it sounds too good to be true. It would be amazing if it wasn’t- can anyone advise? Thanks 🙏

Hello @Kittycat101

Welcome to the PayPal Community!

I'm sorry to hear that someone has asked you to pay a fee to receive money. I can confirm that your instincts are correct. You should never have to pay an upfront fee to receive payments. If you sell something through PayPal, you will have a fee assessed after you receive the payment. This fee will enable your Seller Protection. However, you should never have to send them money first. You will also never be charged a fee to upgrade or verify your PayPal account. You can learn more about common scams on our Help Center here: What are common scams and how do I spot them?

I hope this helps!
