Invoice email

Just got an email that appears to be from PayPal saying they are sending me an invoice for $300, covering cost of a Target gift card.  Says to call[Removed. Phone #s not permitted]if I didn't make the transaction.  Seems a fraud, but email looked professional. I forwarded it to PayPal.  Any one else see this?

If its a spoof then NEVER USE ANY LINK OR ANY PHONE NUMBER.

Firstly if the email/text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.

Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email/text to ''cancel'' any transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.

Also if they ask you to call the number in the email then it would be fake paypal agents trying to scam you for money to 'fix' something.

If there was a problem with your account Paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email / download an attachment OR phone them on a number in an email, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

I also recently started getting the same exact emails. I have been ignoring them. PayPal really needs to find a way to shut these down.

How would they do that? Anyone that has your email address can send an invoice.

So scammers harvest email addresses in the hope that 'some' of them are linked to paypal accounts and will then show up in those accounts.

Fair point. I find it interesting that the emails I am getting do not have an invoice showing in my account at all yet, so it would seem that my emails are in fact phishing emails that are trying to get me to click or call the phone numbers at the bottom.

Yep sounds like a typical spoof email.

They tend to work out of the country in 'internet' cafes using hijacked or anonymous email addresses.  😑
