Dispute canceled but PayPal not aware

Gonna try to keep this short.  Made a purchase, defective merch was sent and vendor was silent.  Filed a dispute with my CC company and then the vendor started writing.  Canceled the dispute based on agreed refund.  After shipping unit back refund never showed up.  

That is the background, my issue is that PayPal never got that the dispute was canceled.  Have been working with them, and then today, holding for a supervisor to help out.  Kid you not, on hold for 4.5 hours still.  Grrrrr.  Is there a better way to trace their through and get help?

Never cancel a dispute or cc chargeback until you get a refund first. And never let a seller convince you to do so either.

You might be up the river now because there is no obligation for seller to follow through with refund even if PayPal got the memo and closed the chargeback case. Seller don’t have to refund you. You don’t have an open cc chargeback case to enforce the refund since you canceled it. You could have just returned the item, provided your card issuer the proof of return delivery and they’ll refund you and get the money from PayPal and PayPal takes the money from the seller. Now, you only left with seller’s WORD that they will refund. Good luck with that one. It’s a common seller refund stalling/refund dodge tactic. And once you open a cc chargeback, you cannot go back to PayPal to dispute later.
