Advice about selling a car, recieving payment via paypal.

I'm selling my car (not on ebay) and have had someone offering to buy via paypal and send someone for collection. I know all about these scams where buyers say I'll pay with a bankers draft and add shipping fees and the seller has to sort it out with the shippers. I've always disregarded these and said cash on collection only but this one says he'll pay in full via paypal and arrange for someone to collect. I just want to know where I stand on the security of the payment. Do I have to wait any particular time for it to clear? Can he cancel payment once cleared or request a refund?

You hear so many scams going on I just want to be sure, I'm already dubious due to the fact he's saying he'll send someone else to collect. Or am I just best sticking to my guns and demanding cash on collection? Please help.

Thanks for the prompt response.I'm Okay with the condition of the car, as i have already go through it on the ad but just trying to make little inquiry from you ready to buy it now as a gift for my son, I'm at sea at the moment as I'm a Navy Officer,and due to the nature of my Job.....phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you a text regarding it. Should i assum that this is a scam?  I responded to this person to state that I will only be accepting cash on collection and that a receipt would be issued which states that the car was sold as seen and no refund would be given.  I suspect he will no longer contact.  Any thoughts??

Found another marine engineer out there. I'm selling a car and I've got sms with "is it still available? please reply to email". I replied "yes, it's for sale" and got this:

I got the same email from <removed>

gave him a different email address with no paypal account linked to it and he even went to the effort of  creating a paypal email saying i had been paid the amount for the car + shipping fees.  Requesting i send the shipping fees to an address in italy.  See email below:

I just want to inform you that I have just completed the payment and I hope you must have been notified through email about the payment I made through PayPal, you can check your PayPal email (xxxx@hotmail.co.uk) inbox and junk box properly for the payment notification email from PayPal, I have just made the payment of £X,XXX.00 GBP. I have added the sum of £850.00 GBP for the shipping charges as requested by PayPal while I was making the payment... kindly transfer the sum of £850.00 GBP to the shipper's address. The address given is their headquarters where all payment made is being commissioned. Do go ahead, locate a Western Union outlet near you and transfer the shipping fees to the shipper so he can be able to come for the pick up. However, the shipper will sign every necessary document/papers required to be signed before picking up the car on my behalf as I instructed him, do get the money sent to him via Western Union Money Transfer as soon as you received the confirmation of the funds from PayPal so he can come pick up the car asap. Below is the shipper's details.

He sent another email after i didnt respond to his payment emails:

I am really running out of patient..  I'd like to know if you have sent out the shipping fee as required of you and also, would like to know if PayPal has credited your account. I asked for a phone number to contact Gerald too, this was his reply:

I have known its a scam/fake since he sent the first email enquiry, i just thought i would cotton him on for a few emails and see what he's all about.  Just be careful and don't give him any real information.
