How to eliminate credit card payment option?

Hi, All,

Is there anybody out there who could show me a way to disable credit card payment option for my PayPal account? I could do it because of chargebacks, which not only steal my money but also bring extra fees. I'd like to accept only instant PayPal payments from other PayPal accounts, but not from credit cards.

I heard that new PayPal API allows to eliminate credit card payment option, but as far as I can see API examples, there is an option for buyer to create a new PayPal account at the login page. Clicking this link buyer is taken to a web page, where credit card payment option still exists. So, I'd like to disable such option completely. No new accounts creation options when anybody pays to me! Just login to an EXISTING PayPal account and nothing more!

Is it yet possible?

Thanks.

I have been selling on ebay for 8 years and this is a new one....I have a buyer who purchased and paid through Paypal.  Then he sent me an email telling me he used an 'invalid' credit card and how should we proceed because when he tried using another card to pay, it said he had already paid.  I sent back an email saying we could cancel the first transaction and then he could rebuy or he could just send the money through Paypal using the send money button.  I never got a response and sent three more emails to him.

This morning, he responded saying it shows he paid and 'what was the problem?'  I reminded him he had sent me an email saying he had used an invalid card and that Paypal is not the credit card company but the go-between and my account will probably be charged back but it could take a while for that to happen.

I decided to go ahead and ship the $10.00 item and wait and see what happens.  I will block this seller from buying from me again.

Anyone know if Paypal would immediately know if the guy used and invalid card?

Your case is a bit offtopic. Nevertheless AFAIK, there is no way to learn if the card is stolen or not if the card issuer has accepted this card. It is obvious that we'd never speak about this problem else.

As for your term "invalid card" I don't understand it. What does it mean "invalid"? The buyer never could make a purchase if his card was refused by the card issuer. So, really invalid cards never can harm you. As for stolen cards, seee above, though I never could imagin a customer informing me about a stolen card usage Smiley Happy

As for my experience, 100% of chargebacks coming for this year, originated from _verified_ PayPal accounts with _confirmed_ post addresses. It means that some ugly peole just abuse PayPal, though they have legal access to PayPal.

As for tangible goods selling, I don't see any problems, because you either get a delivery receipt or you get your item back. Thus you never lose both your item and money.

Thanks for your response.  This is a first for me.  I have had only one chargeback in 8 years and that was because someone wiped out a Paypal account using a phishing email.

The buyer just said he used an 'invalid' card.  Not sure what that means either.  If I lose $10.  that's not too bad.  But I will see what happens.  I will contest a chargeback it it comes to that.   What was strange is that the buyer acted as though he never sent the first email telling me what happened.

I finally got a clear answer from him.  He added a 2nd card which was a good card and the payment went through OK, or so he said.  We'll see.

I think he is a all of the above as you stated.

At any rate, I am so glad I stumbled across this forum.   This is so helpful.  Thanks!
