How do we specify item weight when editing a button using the new interface?

I logged into my saved buttons today and found a new interface. I changed the prices for several items. In the process, I noticed the new interface gives no place to specify the item weight. Later when I tested the buttons, I discovered that every button I changed the price for, the shipping became free.

It seems like whoever modified the interface completely neglected to incorporate the ship weight for each item, and now any edit of any item results in free shipping.

How do I get back to charging for shipping?

Tech says it's a bug and the solution is on hold. Not satisfactory at all.

I am having the same problem. Tech Support at PayPal is either unwilling or unable to help. The staff I spoke to seemed annoyed and abrupt.

SHIPPING OPTION BY WEIGHT IS BEING DISCONTINUED FOR PAYPAL BUTTONS. Here's the recent answer from Merch Tech Support: Unfortunately with the new Button Generator, weight is no longer a supported variable/option for new buttons. Under these circumstances if you do need to calculate shipping dependent on weight, we would urge that you look into utilizing a third-party shopping cart that has this functionality built-in. You can review some of our preferred partners here.

So no point in staying with PayPal, will look at Stripe or something

Guess they just don't care, not sure what the usefulness of PayPal buttons is if the only the option is flat rate shipping.

Solution:  The weight field has been removed.  To ship by weight against your weight table you now enter variables into the "Advanced Variables" field under "Optional Settings" at the bottom of your button creation or edit tool.  Enter two lines of code in that field:  weight=your product ship weight and  weight_unit=lbs.  That will fix the problem.  You must edit every button.
