Unauthorized transaction

How can a seller change the authorized amount of a purchase through PayPal without authorization from the purchaser? The issue goes deeper. I think I'm the victim of a scam. So far, no help through PayPal; AI failed to get the issue correctly and the case I filed was closed in favor of the seller. The categories offered through the Resolution Center do not seem to fit the case. I can stop payment through the credit card company, but it seems PayPal would be the first line of defense since they have allowed an unauthorized charge to my account. Item purchased (propane tank) seems to have disappeared from the web. The website where I ostensively purchased the tank now appears to have nothing but clothing. I have received no communication at all from the seller and attempt to reach him through the web interface form failed.

Clarification RE: Unauthorized Transaction (long). I authorized a payment through PayPal to a vendor for a propane tank. I received an email notice from PayPal: - [ ] "You authorized $99.99 to kuygcfy yrdj." Eight (8) minutes later I received a second notice from PayPal: - [ ] "kuygcfy yrdj has made a change to your authorization .... Thanks for using PayPal We have an update for you - [ ] You approved an authorization to kuygcfy yrdj on November 25, 2024 for $99.99 USD. kuygcfy yrdj has updated the total amount of your transaction. Your new total is $114.90 USD. ... How can kuygcfy yrdj make a change to my authorization without my authorization to make such change? I authorized a specific amount, not any amount kuygcfy yrdj decides to charge. I have no idea what the additional amount is for. As mentioned in my initial post, my attempt to contact this vendor through the contact. form on the web page failed. Additionally, it seems odd to me that PayPal would just comply with such an unauthorized change to a transaction! It appears to me that there is something unethical going on here, even without all the other red flags previously mentioned. This is certainly a new way of doing business in my experience. Normally a vendor would contact the buyer with an explanation and request authorization for any price increase. It appears there is no way to cancel this transaction short of disputing it through the credit card company, as I have nothing from the vendor, nothing about the order, no contact info, etc. l have made screenshots of the disappearance of the item on the web and how the website, where the item originally appeared (or did it?) now shows only clothing for sale. Being off grid on a small solar system makes my online research time very limited. l have enough for a successful credit card dispute, I think. But it just irks me to no end that it appears PayPal allows (enables?) this sort of scam to occur through its service.
