Thanks for your post, and welcome to the Community. If you received an email confirming an invoice was paid, I would recommend reviewing your PayPal activity to confirm it was a genuine payment. If you received an email with an invoice for you to pay but do not know if it is legitimate, I'd recommend reviewing the following Help Center article for Tips to Spot and Report a Fake Email.
