You may have received a fake email. Fake emails, also known as phishing emails, attempt to collect your personal and financial information. These fake emails often link to fake websites that encourage you to enter personal information such as credit card numbers, passport or driver’s license numbers, and account passwords.

In my 11 years with PayPal, I have never received a legitimate email asking me for personal information.
I agree with Cristina. This sounds like a phishing email and should be deleted.
As a rule of thumb, any email asking you for a pin number, security code, or password should be ignored. Companies don't do this. Pins are used in systems with encryption.
