Why are my currencies auto-converted suddenly?

My PP account can receive USD and EUR. The account is in EUR.
I have clients in the US that pay me in USD, clients in Europe which pay me in EUR. It always used to be the case that my US-based clients and payments would come in, well, as USD, allowing me to match them to invoices and making sure I got the right amounts. I recently received two new payments from those same clients, in USD, but they showed up as EUR in my transaction overview. The balance that I saw, was still in USD though (just the transaction overview showed a EUR amount).
I contacted PP support and they confirmed what USD amounts had been sent, but totally did not explain why it was displayed in EUR. I followed up and asked about it.
Today I logged into my PP account again and:
* PP support just closed my support question
* My USD balance was automatically converted to EUR (I did in no way authorize this or set anything up that could possibly explain that).
Anyone know what is going on here?
