Improvements to the Shipping Label Tool

Hi everyone!

There are some exciting new changes coming in the next few weeks and months!

We are replacing our current shipping label tool for another that can save you time and money.

Over the next few weeks, PayPal will be directing customers to a new and improved tool for creating shipping labels.

The new PayPal tool is powered by eBay and very similar to the current one, but it is easier to use and comes with added advantages, including extra service options, and USPS shipping rates that are up to 32.5% less than what you pay now.  You can read all about the benefits in the new tool’s FAQs

What Do I Need to Do?

Nothing right now.  Just be aware that starting March 27, 2012, when you go to create a shipping label, you may be automatically directed to use the new PayPal tool.

How Does the Shipping Label Tool Work?

Working with the new tool should be easy and very similar to the one you use now.  If you do need help, these FAQs, demos, and tutorials are right there to walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming improvements! If you have any questions that aren't covered in the resources linked above, please feel free to post them here. 🙂

"Improvements" is a stretch.

eBay already has this tool, so why is it better to only have one option instead of two?

The eBay tool is broken. You cannot ship Large/Irregular or Very Large packages via Parcel Post through the system. I have always had to go straight to the PayPal payment and print through the PayPal system for those items. All this migration has done is take away that option.

Now I can no longer measure Width+Girth, match to the USPS guidelines and choose "Large Package" or "Very Large Package" and click the check box if it is irregular (like I did just yesterday, I might add!) . Instead, now I enter the dimensions of a Large/Irregular package, much like the package I shipped yesterday, and just like the eBay tool, the PayPal tool does not include the Parcel Post option. I KNOW that this is not due to the package being unable to ship via that method. I have done it through PayPal's old system dozens of times and never had one arrive postage due -- and I've even handed them over the counter for the clerks to measure them and double check that I had the correct postage.

This needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY.

It is a complete debacle for me to no longer receive e-mails with the corresponding information outlined in the above post.  It is a step backward.  I do not need an e-mail that only states that eBay has debited by PayPal account.  I need the e-mail that includes who and where the package was shipped!

It also is a huge problem for me that the information is also not outlined on PayPal.  Before, the debit line in PayPal indicated that it was a USPS charge (now it says eBay) and if you clicked on "Detail" you could access the who and where of the package.  No longer!  Now you have to click through a number of screens to identify the package and even then there is no name or address, only a eBay screen name.

As I export accounting, this is a huge problem, too.

Glaring omissions like this can only be typical of junior programmers and management that doesn't use eBay / PayPal themselves.  What good is confirmation if the email doesn't provide any details?

I just used the new tool for the first time and so far I'm not impressed and not happy. Did anyone else have problems getting the tool to print just the shipping label (without receipt or instructions) without changing the size & location of the label on the page? I use self-adhesive labels with 2 labels per page, but when I turned off the receipt/instructions and clicked the Preview/Test button, it changed the size and location of the label on the paper! I didn't actually purchase a label without receipt to see what would happen; I purchased with receipt and had to waste half a sheet of label stock.

Also, the preview function (with receipt) DOES NOT show the layout as it will appear on the paper! The preview shows the label rotated 90° on the page, which freaked me out, thankfully it printed "normally" on the label. I guess next time I will try purchasing a label and printing without receipt to see if it works or not. At the moment I can't tell if the printing function was broken during this "upgrade", or if it just the new "label preview" function that is broken. Either way - I don't like being a beta tester. This new tool was rolled out too early, IMO.

On a side note, it seemed like it required many more clicks to get a label printed with the new tool, compared to the old tool (and I even had to re-enter my password - what's up with that?). Next label, I'm counting clicks. I don't know about anyone else, but I did not need a new tool that reduced my productivity while increasing my costs and frustration...

The fact that you needed to hold a workshop is a good indication that the new shipping tool is a pain in the butt. I use paypal shipping reguarly but I don't sell on eBay that often, so I just used the new tool for the first time. I could NOT get avery 8.5x11 to work without wasting an extra label, so matter which browser I used. The label prints too small, includes the buttons "print label": and "print sample label" and the logo powered by pitney bowes. Adjusting margins made things mostly worse, although it didn allow me to remove the "cut on dotted line" section. I'm glad I don't sell on eBay very often. I would rather go to the post office.

I tried to use the shipping label program for an internstional mailing.  When it got to the Print, it said it had to be on an 8 & 1/2 by 11 page.  What I mail is small boxes (3"x6" surface) or small padded envelopes (5"x8"). Any chance of getting a smaller label for international. For US mailings I print the label at 80% and it just fits my box/envelope and goes through the PO fine.  I take these to the PO and my label with the customs form fit fine. Thanks for any consideraton.

I bypassed PayPal shipping and used my USPS account directly. It had previously under-billed for a print your own label and my shipment was returned to me for being 10 cents short, because the correct shipping option was not available. Bypassing the bugs and extra fees caused a hold to be placed on my payment as if I was a new seller, after selling thousands of dollars worth of stuff and having a perfect rating. Paypal shipping, which is just an e-Bay company anyway, is now taking a cut out of shipping. So a big cut from auction sales, then from payment through PayPal wasn't enough. You need a third cut out of shipping. SO the list of how PayPal **bleep** just keeps growing. Customer service. Sorry for the inconvenience but we do whatever the **bleep** we feel like, whenever we feel like it, because we not really regulated or eventually to anyone. One thing I am sure of about PayPal, is I can never be sure of anything.
