I think I have had enough!

I have been a PayPal customer for nearly 15 years but I am now searching an alternative service. Over the years PayPalhas helped me with a few buying and selling problem. I have always found them fair in the past but now I have had enough.

I recently ordered a cell phone and it was advertised as a world phone showing ability to operate on 3G: WCDMA 850/1900/2100MHz & 2G:GSM 850/900/1800/1900frequencies. Actually the ad has still not been changed and they are still selling phones.. Minutes after the phone arrived I noticed it was not the world phone but the Euro version which does not operate on the 850Mhz I need here.
So after a lot of emails with Comebuy and PayPal I escalated the dispute to a claim. I had always maintained I would be happy to package up the phone and ship it back at the sellers cost. I even went so far as to say I would eat the original shipping costs. I had ordered the phone in good faith that they would deliver the model the advertised.

PayPal decide that I should pay to ship it back. What did I do that I should be out of pocket to ship it back?

I truly believe that Ebay and PayPal will feel the pinch over the next few years as more payment services become common place and the deep tie between the colours both of them in a bad light.

So to sum it up Paypal you are about to loose several thousands of dollars a year in business. A drop in the bucket I know but as more people find other services the thousands become hundreds of thousands. You have had a good run PayPal but I think without a over haul very soon it will be a long slide.

Thanks for the good days but they don't seem to out way the cost and lack of service these days.

Paypal can only ever get you back funds processed through themselves ie your original payment including shipping costs.

They can't force a seller to refund return costs or dip into their accounts to take those funds.

If paypal finds in your favour in an item not received dispute then they can get you that payment back but of course you have to return the item first.

If you choose to buy from a registered business seller in your own country then they have to fund return costs.

If they don't then you can take them to the small claims court or whatever is similar in your country.

But if you choose to buy from a private seller or internationally you don't have that protection.

You need to bear that in mind before you select where to buy your item from.

Its all in the buyer protection policy that you can read before buying to check how you are protected.

I have never asked for then I have paid. I actually would have been happy with less then I paid. The purchase was from a fairly major company that I am sure does a lot of business with PayPal.

Your repeating of basic PayPal policy that have little or nothing to do with the situation is of little use to me.

I guess that is Paypal service. Somehow get volunteers to to do the customer relations.

I can only give you the facts.

What did you expect on a paypal board, paypals policy or Grimms fairy tales?

You asked and i took the time to respond to explain how it works.

As I said I give the facts to try and help folks, I don't say whether I agree or do not agree with those policies.

I also am here to help folks from being scammed which i have done countless times on this user to user help board.

If you had actually read my original post you would see that your reply has little to do with the situation.

You have also just done a very fine job of supplying typical PayPal customer service. I am sorry if I have offended you as busy volunteer. They actually allow you to type to customers in that tone?

I don't need stories but I don't need policy quotes that don't apply to the situation either.

I f I wasn't **bleep** before I am now so thanks for you help.

I will type in whatever tone i want to.

I don't work for paypal.

I am a user here EXACTLY the same as YOU ARE.so i can speak MY OWN VIEWS exactly as i want to.

I can only give you the facts, not the intelligence to understand them.

Bye.

Hi kernowlass and Gorio,

Please make sure we are following Community Guidelines and respecting each other with no personal attacks.

Gorio, Welcome to the PayPal Community!

I'm sorry to hear about the experience with the phone purchase. 😞  We certainly want our customers to have pleasant buying experiences with our service.  Kernowlass is correct that we cannot force a merchant to reimburse return shipping costs.  We can only enforce a refund for the amount we processed in our system.  I understand this can be very frustrating for a buyer and that this may not change your view on the situation.  We hope that merchants choose to offer a customer friendly return policy to their customers and that buyers are researching those policies prior to purchase.

Our community is happy to provide general assistance and guidance around PayPal questions and best practices but we do not have the option to service your account through this site.  I would encourage you to contact PayPal support if you would like us to review the specific claim and see if other options are available.

Support can be reached through the following channels:

By Phone: Visit https://www.paypal.com/help and click "Call Us" on the right side of the page.

By email: Visit https://www.paypal.com/help and click "Email Us" on the right side of the page.

Twitter:  https://www.twitter.com/askpaypal

I hope this information helps and that our support teams are able to find an amicable solution and restore your faith in our service. 😄
