If I refund purchase price how do I ensure the item is returned?

Sold an item that was insured with UPS. Item was damaged when it arrived. Insurance claim was filed, but before UPS could complete its investigation the buyer shipped the unit off to a repair facility, which resulted in UPS denying the insurance claim.
I would like to offer the buyer a full refund but want to make sure I get the item returned.
