Buy something BUT send the item to someone else

I want to buy something online from a merchant, pay for it with PayPal AND have the item sent to a friend in another state.

I see a place where I can (I think) send the item to another address, but I fear that PayPal might interpret my request as a change of my own physical address.  I do not want to change my address!

The merchant I wish to buy from does not seem to ask for ”send to” information, as far as I can see.  It looks like it’s coming from PayPal.  But I am not sure that it is.

I may need some hand-holding through this process via telephone.  The PayPal Help options do not include this.

Thanks for trying, but the link provided enables me to change MY information.

I want to send an item purchased with my PayPal funds to someone else.

At the link, I searched “Add Address” and all of MY info appeared for editing.  Same result upon searching “Add Gift Address.”

Unless you know differently and can guide me elsewhere, it looks like PayPal can only send money to other people electronically.  It cannot accommodate sending purchased items with PayPal funds to other people.  I will contact the merchant and find out how to do that.
