How can I switch off 2-step phone verification? The provided instructions do not work.

I'd like to use Paypal on my laptop without reliance on a mobile phone, like I have done for many years.

How can I switch off this new phone verification? I have followed online instructions but they do not work.

Thanks

You need to have a mobile (not landline) phone issued in your country and registered in your name verified on your Paypal account now.
Paypal are using mobile phones for i.d requirements for logging in and withdrawal funds for extra security measures.

Strange how Paypal managed two decades without this.

I don't believe this has anything to do with security.

Everyone that finds these extra steps inconvenient should urge Paypal to make this feature optional.

Yeah this is crap. I haven't bothered with cellphones in a long time. I don't want a cell phone. Last one I bought was blackberry back when it was the new big thing.
