I sold 16GB desktop memory on Feb 24, 2015. The payment was immediately cleared and I shipped the item out on the same day.
Today (3/3/2015), I logged on to eBay and discovered that a refund was issued to the buyer without my authorization. I went over to PayPal and learned that the buyer opened a case after the item was shipped, claiming that the item was "unauthorized".
The case reads: We have reviewed the case. Because you have not met Seller Protection performance requirements , the transaction will be reversed. The case is now closed.
Are you kidding me?
Never received an email from PayPal or eBay about the claim. Now I'm out $130+ and desktop memory! Trying to contact eBay and PayPal about it.
Help / Advice is greatly appreciated!

An unauthorised payment is a when a buyers account has been hijacked and used without their consent.
So they file a dispute and if paypal sees they are telling the truth via IP addys etc then of course the account holder is repaid the funds that were used without his consent.
HOWEVER you would also be protected and not lose any money as long as you met ALL the criteria of seller protection, seems that in some way you did not meet all the criteria of that protection.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

The same thing has just happened to me and its an absolute disgrace!
My buyer put a dispute in over 35 days later for a digital item they purchased on ebay (and used)
After the funds behind on hold for over a week they have now been refunded to the buyer!
So now I am out of pocket from a sale that was completed in January!
Way to go and shaft honest sellers paypal
Scamming paypal just seems to easy, Just use a VPN buy something and then claim your paypal was hacked and get your money back! and you can do it over 30 days later just like this guy did to me!
closing my paypal account seems like a good idea....

Yep you are right.
There is no seller protection with paypal for virtual items and THEY TELL YOU THAT.
You can sell them but entirely at YOUR OWN RISK.

I am very sad .ebay & paypal destroyed my trust.

[UPDATE: 7/20/15]
I contacted the BBB about two months after and they happily took my case. Luckily, they managed to get in touch with Paypal (after I had no luck) and got my money back in full (except for those pesky fees that PayPal gladly kept)!
I'm just ecstatic that it wasn't a complete loss. BBB, I love you guys!
