Paid for 4 items on eBay today, via PayPal, all payments are marked payment reversed/ refunded

Hello,

I wonder if you can help me.  I tried to make purchases on eBay today and paid via PayPal.  £14.08 was to come from my PayPal balance and £160.82 from my bank/ Visa account.  It came up that 'checkout was successful'  then flashed up in red that some error had occurred.  When I checked the order details, I saw that all the payments had been reversed/ refunded.  On my PayPal account summary, it showed that all four payments had been reversed.  However, I got an e-mail from PayPal to say I 'had sent a total payment of £174.92 GBP and listed the sellers.  On my eBay account activity, these are listed as unpaid items.  When I click on the details, it says 'you bought this item'.  Looking at my bank/ Visa card account, I can see that the money has gone but I don't know if the transaction has gone throught or if the money will go back in a couple of days.  I am very confused & don't understand what has happened.

 

I phoned the PayPal helpline but they did not know how to help: the adviser said he would ask at 'a higher level'.  In the meantime, I was advised not to make any transactions on PayPal for 24 to 72 hours and they would phone me back.  I am not sure if I will hear from them.  I am very worried that I might have lost my money or that I will not get the goods I ordered.  I would be grateful for some help from the community.  Many thanks.

I'm sorry to hear what has happened here.

 

It sounds to me that our internal security system may have reversed the payments that you have attempted to send from your account recently but I can't be sure as I am unable to see your account.

 

It's strange however if you gave us a quick call and you were advised that we weren't sure what happened.

 

My best advice for you would be to contact us directly through Twitter @AskPayPal or through Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/PayPalUK and we can look into this directly for you.

We can check this out and try determine what happened. Then we can update you via the registered email address on your account.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.  Eventually, I got this sorted out & had my money refunded to my bank account.  I never did find out why the payments were reversed.
