Purchased from a fake website using paypal

I went to purchase some earrings for my girlfriends birthday today from a store in Toronto. This is their website: https://mejuri.com/  However, instead I went to a website that is fake and a known fraud by police and the real company. I was unaware it was a scam until I placed the order. The fake site is here: https://www.mejurishop.com/  As you can see the site is done up to look real but when I payed the email address of the company was fake: <Removed> and the invoice said it was for electronics in my shopping cart, not earrings.

The payment went through right away and is not even pending. I tried filing a suspicious activity report in haste because I wanted to try anything to stop from losing my 122 dollars. But sadly this only made things worse. Now my account actions are limited and It won't let me change my password to restore account. Having tried using 3 different web browsers on different devices.

I need the following answers:

When can I file a dispute against this fraud? I clearly won't be receiving any products but when is the time frame I must wait for?

and also when will I be able to restore my paypal account to full function? I submitted my passport photo but the submit button like I said for my password change will not work.

I am getting sick and tired of the poor and frustrating paypal customer service. Someone please help me

@alexmerrick  The exact same thing happened to me, but I just today got someone from paypal facebook to reverse it and let me dispute it on the grounds of not receiving anything. I suggest you try reaching out to them there or twitter like someone else mentioned. You can even give them this thread and let them know that many people have experienced the same issue with this fraudulent website. Good luck and please keep us posted

@Stephen_W  That's promising! I tried messaging over facebook but it's just a bot who ends up communicating with you - unless there's another way to contact them via FB? I don't have twitter, sadly. I have sent numerous emails too. I did open a dispute but categorized it incorrectly and it's been closed. Apparently you cannot open a closed dispute, so I'm **bleep** there. It's so frustrating because I honestly think it's just bots replying to the emails! what I would give to talk to a human! If there's a way to contact an actual person via FB please let me know! Thanks to this thread for the advice and support! Am not giving up 🙂

@alexmerrick Yeah, honestly the exact same thing happened with me. I panicked and made the wrong report in desperation and then was denied and found myself feeling **bleep**. And my account was then more or less frozen until I changed my password and sent in a pic of my photo id.

On facebook you're right they are most bots, but I found that by staying in the messenger with the bot someone real eventually replied after my constant messaging haha. Silly and bad way of doing business but what can you do. I feel bad for the people working to try and help, getting the full brunt of frustrated customers like me, so I try and remind myself to be nicer even though I want to throttle someone.

Paypal has certainly disappointed me with how they handle customer service and I won't forget it. Good luck.

Same thing has happened to me. I tried to be transferred to a customer service rep but it’s taking 20 plus minutes to get a response and I missed it twice. I wish there was a phone number. I can’t open it back up. I think they think I filed it because it’s from China but it’s from a fake site.

This exact same thing happened to me yesterday.  I purchased two items totaling 60.00 for my boyfriend s daughter on the Mejurishop.com fake site.  I didn't realize anything was amiss until I received the payment confirmation email that noted the business name Zhaocheng Metal Products LTD.  The confirmation also said 60.00 for "everything on order"  I immediately panicked and did a little research confirming that the site is, indeed, fake.  Since I'm not a regular shopper of Mejuri, I didn't realize that the prices were discounted.  The website was an exact match for the Mejuri. com site but doesn't list any contact info.  I quickly got on the phone and filed a dispute using the PayPal automated system.  Since the site didn't allow me to be specific, I chose "did not receive item" option vs unauthorized charge option.  I received a note back from PayPal saying that they contacted the company and were waiting for the response from the vendor.  I also called my bank and spoke to the fraud department.  They cancelled my debit card and issued a new one.  Also, noted that the charge was for an order from a fraudulent website.  This morning,  I received an email from PayPal saying that Zhaocheng Metal Products is crediting my account for the 60.00.  I just went online to check Mejurishop.com and the name of the site has changed to Mejurisale.com.

I have just submitted a suspicious activity report to Paypal because I've just had the same issue. This is absolutely appalling.

Paypal needs to be more vigilant because these fraudulent websites are being legitimised by having a link to Paypal.

Hey everyone, today PayPal somehow ruled in my favour and refunded my money. I wasn’t expecting it so soon but am happy with the result. I think there is good odds all of you will receive a refund as well so long as you can file the dispute and be patient. The evidence is overwhelmingly on your side and I think PayPal can see it. Good luck

Thanks for the update and so glad you got it resolved! I'm still waiting for PayPal to contact the "vendor" and make a decision, but this gives me hope!
